1Captures explode
Every capture destroys the piece that moved and everything beside it, except pawns. Nothing is traded in Atomic — something is detonated.
A capture destroys the capturing piece and every piece next to it except pawns.

Checkmate barely exists here. Explode any piece next to their king and the king dies with it — and that wins even when your own king is in check. The game is about the empty squares around both kings, and every capture is aimed.
A capture destroys the piece that moved, the piece taken, and every piece beside the capture — except pawns, which no blast can touch. Kings may never capture, and no move may explode your own king. En passant explodes like any other capture. Explode the enemy king to win; checkmate still wins too. That wins even when your own king is in check: you never have to answer a check first.
Moments to look out for. Each one you make in a game is kept in your finds.
