1The hill is four squares
Win by checkmate, or walk your own king to one of the four squares in the middle of the board — d4, d5, e4, e5 — and the game ends on the spot.
You also win by walking your king to one of the four centre squares.
Win by checkmate, or walk your own king to one of the four squares in the middle of the board — d4, d5, e4, e5 — and the game ends on the spot.
A king that heads for the middle is a king leaving its walls. The hill rewards the brave early and the precise late — and your opponent is racing you to the same four squares.
Stand your own king on d4, d5, e4 or e5 and the game ends at once. The king has to arrive legally: it may not move into check to reach the hill, and a king already in check must answer the check first. Checkmate still wins, and so does a win on time. Everything else is chess.
