Everything is where it has always been. Checkmate the king, or win on time when there is a clock.
The ordinary rules of chess.
Everything is where it has always been. Checkmate the king, or win on time when there is a clock.
This is the one mode where everything you have ever memorized is worth full price. The six others each bend a rule of it — and every opening you know bends with it.
The ordinary rules and the ordinary starting position. Checkmate wins, and so does a win on time. A game is drawn by stalemate, by repetition — the same position three times — by the fifty-move rule, and when neither side has the pieces left to force a mate.
Moments to look out for. Each one you make in a game is kept in your finds.
Fork
With one move, attack two pieces that are each a king or worth more than the piece you moved, then take one of them with that piece on your next move.
Pin
Pin their knight, bishop, rook or queen to their king with a bishop, rook or queen, then take it on your next move or the one after.
Back-rank mate
Checkmate with a rook or queen when their king is on its first row and its own pieces fill every square in front of it.
Smothered mate
Checkmate with a knight when their own pieces fill every square next to their king.
En passant
Capture a pawn en passant.
Underpromotion
Promote a pawn to a knight, bishop or rook.
